Apparently, our air ducts were leaking 55 cubic meters per minute of cooled air into our attic and walls. We had the ducts "Aeroseal"ed by blowing a glue type compound into the shafts thereby sealing any holes or leaks. We could immediately feel the difference in how fast the house cools and in the forcefulness of the air.
The solar water heater seems to be working well. Really, it is a no-brainer to utilize solar power since we live in AZ. With the tax incentives and the reduction of our monthly bills we should be saving money despite having to pay to have it all installed. We are happy to be helping ourselves and the environment. Let's hope that going green saves a lot of green.
This is our old water heater. (above) This is our new water heater. (below)
We wanted to put the solar panel on the back of our house, but since that is the North side it wouldn't be as efficient to place it there. It's not too bad, but the other side would have been better.

I am so jealous. I would love to do solar panels, but it would take us 15 years to recoup our expenses.
OOhhh!!! I can't wait to talk to you about this!
Good for you going green AND saving green. Now we can have more girls lunches and shopping trips! Paul will go for that too right?
Awesome! I think that is so wonderful. I am tring to figure out some ways to make this house more efficent. You are inspiring me even more. I want to hear if you see changes for the better in the bottom line
Sounds great.
Let me know how this works out.
Mom and I have been thinking about solar electricity for our house, but have some concern about the true savings.
Having it on the front of the house is better. You'll be setting a good example for the whole neighborhood.
